Gov. Laura Kelly has signed the sports betting bill passed by the Kansas Legislature, meaning the law is set to go into effect July 1, 2022. In other words, it’s only a matter of time before Kansas sports betting is up and running. The bill allows both online and retail sports betting in Kansas.
Kansas’ four casinos will each be allowed to offer both retail sportsbooks and up to three online sports betting platforms. Each casino will also be able to partner with a Kansas professional sports team to operate one additional online skin. Meanwhile, lawmakers were able to agree to a tax rate of 10% for both online and retail sports betting.
The Kansas Lottery will oversee sports betting in the Sunflower State. Meanwhile, the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission will handle regulations on sports gambling advertisements.
Sports betting in KS will allow bets on professional, college and motorsports, or special events authorized by the commission.
The Kansas sports betting bill sets a minimum age requirement of 21.
As of now, the legislation will charge the Kansas Lottery to have sports betting rules and regulations finalized by no later than Jan. 1, 2023.
